A Roman library, a Marian chapel, a Wonder of the Ancient World.
Ruins and seaside towns are everywhere on the Aegean. These three sites are not. The library facade still standing after eighteen centuries, the mountain chapel where the Virgin is said to have died, and the foundation of a temple four times the size of the Parthenon. Build the trip around them.
The Roman city
The Library of Celsus
A two-storey Roman facade still standing after eighteen centuries, framed by Curetes Street and the Great Theatre. There is one Library of Celsus on earth. The walk through the ruins ends here on every guided tour, and the photograph is the one travellers fly in for.

The House of Virgin Mary
A small stone chapel halfway up Mount Koressos, recognised by the Vatican as the place the Virgin Mary spent her final years. Quiet, candle-lit, set in a pine forest. Almost every Ephesus day-tour pairs the ruins with the climb to the house.

A Wonder of the Ancient World
The Temple of Artemis
One of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, four times the size of the Parthenon in its day. What stands now is a single re-erected column ringed by foundation stones and storks. Ten minutes from the Ephesus gate — most visitors stop on the way back to Selcuk.

The classics
Ephesus’s Most Popular Day Tours
Library of Celsus, Mary’s House, Temple of Artemis, the Terrace Houses and a lunch stop in Selcuk. The combinations travellers book most.
By place
Six places on one Aegean map.
Ephesus for the ruins. Mary’s House for the pilgrimage. Selcuk for the slow afternoons. Kusadasi for the cruise port and beach hotels. Izmir for the airport in. Sirince for the wine.

Or pick how you want to see it.
Private guide if you want to set the pace. Skip-the-line if you’re short on time. Cruise-port format for ship days, lunch-included for full-day comfort, Pamukkale combo for an extra-mile second site. Plus Sirince wine afternoons and Turkish-bath unwinds for the trip back.
For the cruise day
A shore excursion that hits the headline sites.
Most travellers to Ephesus arrive by ship. These three excursions wrap Library of Celsus, Mary’s House and the Temple of Artemis into a single port-day window — guaranteed on-time return.
When summer is the wrong word for hot
Past the queue at the Magnesia Gate.
Mid-morning at Ephesus in July, the queue at the upper gate stacks twenty deep in full sun. Skip-the-line tickets keep you moving when the buses unload. The three operators booked most for fast entry.
Just the two of you
A private guide, an unhurried day.
One guide, one car, no group of forty trailing the umbrella. Three private Ephesus tours readers come back to — for the slow walk through the Terrace Houses, the quiet morning at Mary’s House, and the time to actually look.
Plan your visit
Where you’re coming from.
Three different ways to land in Ephesus. The four-hour day off the ship, the morning flight from Izmir, the long weekend in Selcuk. The right tour for your trip starts with the right route in.
By cruise ship
Off the boat at Kusadasi.
Kusadasi's cruise terminal sits twenty minutes from the Ephesus gate. A guided day-tour gets you through Curetes Street, up to Mary's House, and back to the ship before sail-away. These three guarantee an on-time return.
